What is an albatross in golf?

Albatross is a golf term used when a player scores three under par on a given hole. For example, if a player made a hole in one on a par 4 it would be considered an albatross. An albatross is also referred to as a double eagle.

The term albatross follows the bird theme for scores under par. A score of one under par on a hole is referred to as a birdie, and two under par is called an eagle. A score of one over par on a hole is called a bogey, two over par a double bogey and so on.
