What is a Girl Scout sit-upon?

A Girl Scout sit-upon is a cushion used to sit on the ground. Each sit-upon is made of fabric and some type of padding. Girl Scouts often use vinyl-covered fabric or tablecloths to make a sit-upon.

Girl Scouts cut the fabric into 15-inch by 30-inch squares, and then fold the fabric in half to make a square. They punch holes around the perimeter of the fabric and sew together two of the open sides with yarn. Then they stuff the cushion with newspaper, carpet, a used pillow or other padding. Finally they sew the open side together with yarn. Some Girl Scouts add handles to make the sit-upon easier to carry.
