Is lawn mover racing a sport?

Lawn mower racing is considered a competitive sport by the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association, the largest and oldest sanctioning body for the event in the country. Through the organization and affiliated clubs and chapters, about 150 races are held annually in different states around the country.

United States Lawn Mower Racing Association race winners do not receive monetary prizes but are awarded trophies and points. According to the association, the first lawn mower race in the U.S. was held in 1963 in Twelve Mile, Ind. Lawn mower races are held in many other countries, including Canada, England, Germany and Luxembourg.
