As of June 24, 2014, Faryd Mondragón was the oldest World Cup soccer player ever, having played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup at the age of 43 years and three days. He surpassed Roger Milla, who previously held the record for 20 years. Both soccer players are now retired.

Roger Milla is still the oldest World Cup goal scorer at the age of 42 years and 39 days, because Mondragón played as a goalkeeper for Colombia when he broke the record. Outside the World Cup, the late Salvador Reyes Monteón is the oldest soccer player, as he played with Chivas of Mexico in 2008 at the age of 71.
