Individuals can refill carbon dioxide cartridges at sporting goods stores such as Dick's Sporting Goods and Sports Authority. Some paintball fields and stores, such as Rush Paintball, also provide CO2 cartridge refilling service.

As of 2015, Dick's Sporting Goods charges $3.50 for refilling a carbon dioxide cartridge of 9 to 12 ounces. For cartridges of 14 to 16 ounces, 20 ounces and 24 ounces, the store charges $4.00, $4.50 and $5.00 respectively. Sports Authority offers four levels of pricing for refilling CO2 cartridges. The rates for refilling cartridges of 3 to 10 ounces, 11 to 18 ounces, 19 to 26 ounces and 27 ounces or larger are $2.50, $3.00, $3.50 and $4.00.
