What does spot skin cancer look like?

There are many types of skin cancer that look different depending on the type of cancer and the person's skin type. Basal cell cancers are the most common with eight out of 10 skin cancer patients suffering from this form of skin cancer.

Basal cell cancers usually appear on areas of the skin that have been exposed to the sun, such as the neck or face. They tend to grow slowly and generally do not spread to other areas of the skin. Basal cell cancers can also be flat or raised, and can be skin toned, pink or red. Larger Basal cell carcinomas can have crusted areas as well. Some have lower centers and black and blue areas surrounding the outside.
