Sri Lanka is in southern Asia. It is an island country in the Indian Ocean, located south of India. Sri Lanka has a total area of approximately 25,300 miles, making it a little larger than the state of West Virginia, and the 122nd largest country in the world.

Sri Lanka's coastline stretches for over 830 miles. The largest city of Sri Lanka is Colombo, and the official capital is Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. Colombo is located along the western coast of the country. As of 2014, Sri Lanka is estimated to have a population approaching 21.9 million people. This makes it the 57th most populated country in the world.
