The standard distance between the dart thrower and the dart board in a traditional dart match is exactly 7 feet, 9 3/4 inches. If soft-tipped darts are being used, the distance extends to exactly 8 feet.
The dartboard also must hang at the regulation height to be used for a traditional dart match. For a traditional match, the center of the dartboard's bulls eye has to be exactly 5 feet, 8 inches from the floor. Lighting is also important in a traditional match. Position the light source above the dartboard so competitors can see the dartboard clearly without moving from the throwing line, which is also called a toe-line, the oche or the hockey.
