What is the standard engine in Chevy trucks?

As of 2015, most Chevy trucks have the EcoTec3 series engine installed. The EcoTec3 line of engines took the place of the Chevrolet Vortec series, and is available in three different sizes.

The new name of the EcoTec3 engine line refers to several of its newly introduced fuel economy boosting elements. These engines feature direct injection and variable valve timing. There are three different sized EcoTec3 engine available: the 4.3 liter, 5.3 liter and 6.2 liter.

Other notable features of the EcoTec3 engine include piston cooling jets, variable displacement oil pump, aluminum cylinder head, aluminum cylinder block and active cooling jets.
