As of 2015, the initial franchise fee for a Chick-fil-A restaurant is $10,000, states the Chick-fil-A company website. Additional startup costs vary, but costs typically include purchasing inventory, renting equipment and operating the franchise, among others. New operators can expect initial costs from the mid-$100,000 range to slightly more than $1 million, notes Franchise Direct.

Chick-fil-A franchisees are called "Operators," and they are required to commit to a full-time, hands-on role at their location, states Chick-fil-A. To purchase a franchise, the corporation must first approve potential operators. Interested parties can view the company's desired targeted areas and complete the Franchise Expression of Interest form located on the corporate website.
