The starting wage for a Walmart associate is commiserate with that individual's experience, but is likely to be minimum wage, which is typically at least $7.25 an hour, as of 2014. Individual states may be higher or lower than the federal rate.
As of 2014, Washington's minimum wage is $9.32 an hour, and Wyoming's is $5.15 an hour. Other factors that may be considered when deciding a new Walmart employee's pay are the store's overall need for associates, open positions in the store itself and availability of the individual applying for the job. Overnight stock crew, for example, may receive higher pay than daytime associates do while working a register.
