The state flower of Connecticut is the mountain laurel. The blossoms of pink, red and white typically bloom in spring and dark green foliage remains on the plant year round. The mountain laurel is native to the eastern regions of North America.

The mountain laurel was adopted as the state plant of Connecticut in 1907. It is a shrub that grows up to 20 feet high and 12 feet wide. A member of the blueberry family, the mountain laurel is also kin to azaleas and rhododendrons. It grows best in sun or part sun and in acidic soil. All parts of the mountain laurel are poisonous.
