Illinois provides grants through the monetary award program to students enrolled at approved institutions, according to the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. If a cosmetology program is sponsored by an approved school, students are eligible for a grant from the state.
MAP grants are only available to students who fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, form and demonstrate financial need, explains the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. The program offers a limited number of grants and closes for the year once all grants are awarded.
Illinois makes MAP grants available to part-time and full-time students, as reported by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. However, students must take a minimum of three credit hours per semester to be eligible, and students only receive MAP grants for a total of 135 credit hours. If the program has too many applicants, only some receive grants. The MAP program gives priority to applicants who are displaced workers.
