As of 2016, the state of Missouri supplies the most walnut lumber in the United States. Missouri's black walnut lumber and black walnut harvests are a major part of its economy, as both black walnut lumber and nuts are in demand around the world.

Walnut lumber is grown throughout the Central and Eastern United States. Workers typically use it to create fine furniture, musical instruments, gunstocks, cabinetry and flooring.
