What are the steps to becoming a gynecologist?

The path to becoming a gynecologist begins with earning a Bachelor’s degree and culminates with completing a fellowship. Graduating from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree is the first step to becoming a gynecologist; typically, a major in a related field (such as the hard sciences) is recommended. Next, aspiring gynecologists attend medical schools — graduate-level schools for practitioners — to earn their medical degrees.
Even after receiving a medical degree, new gynecologists are not ready to practice. Upon graduation, they must complete a residency program, then obtain a license. Next, gynecologists must earn a board certification, then complete a fellowship. Upon receiving a license, they must continue to take educational courses to maintain their licenses.
