The two stock market symbols for Shell Oil are "RDSA" and "RDSB," according to Marketwatch.com. The symbols is an abbreviation of the company name "Royal Dutch Shell."
Shell Oil states that the "A" and "B" in their two stock symbols denote two different classes of ordinary shares. Class A and Class B shares have identical rights. However, Class B shares have a different dividend access mechanism. The former symbol for Shell Oil's stock is "SHOI," which was discontinued, according to Bloomberg Business after Royal Dutch Shell purchased the company in 1984. Shell Oil stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
