Do strawberries have seeds?
By Forinfos - 17/04/2026 - 0 comments
Strawberries are covered with seeds that are housed inside approximately 200 or more achenes that dot the surface of the fruit. Achenes, commonly mistaken as seeds act as protective coatings while the seeds develop.
The fleshy, red portion, which serves as a swollen receptacle for the achenes, is called an accessory fruit. Because planting strawberries from seed is quite a labor-intensive task that often results in limited success, most strawberry varieties are grown from existing plants using a propagation technique called division. They can also be grown from runners, which are long stems that shoot out from the base of the parent strawberry plant.
