What is a substitute for browning sauce?

Browning sauce can be substituted with Kitchen Bouquet or Gravy Master. Depending on the dish being prepared, other browning agents such as soy sauce and instant coffee granules could also be used. All browning agents enhance the color of food.

A homemade browning agent can be made by using brown sugar and water. This is done by putting the brown sugar in a saucepan and stirring over low heat until it starts to melt and turn dark brown. Water is added at this point while whisking until all the sugar has dissolved. It can be stored in airtight containers in the refrigerator for future use.
