According to University College Cork, sulfuric acid is a colorless, oily liquid that is highly corrosive. It has a melting point of 10.3 degrees Celsius, a boiling point of 338 degrees Celsius and a molecular weight of 98.08 grams.
Sulfuric acid has the molecular formula H2SO4. It is prepared industrially by the reaction of water with sulfur trioxide, and is commonly supplied at concentrations of 78, 93, or 98 percent, according to Britannica.com. It is used domestically as a drain cleaner, and as the electrolyte in lead-acid batteries. Its main uses include fertilizer manufacturing, oil refining, mineral processing, chemical synthesis and waste water processing.
