Do summary offenses show up on background checks?

According to former Assistant District Attorney Jason R. Antoine, traffic-related summary offenses do not show up on a background check. Traffic citations appear on an individual's driving record instead. All other kinds of summary offenses appear on background checks.
Summary offenses are considered the lowest tier of crime. Exact definitions and examples vary by state, but some general offenses include disorderly conduct, underage drinking, petty theft, public intoxication and public urination. It is possible to remove a record of a summary offense through appeal or expungement. A fine and up to 90 days of jail time is the maximum penalty.
