A sunflower seed is not considered a nut, but a seed. Sunflower seed products are occasionally processed in the same factory as nuts and therefore may contains traces of nuts.
Sunflower seeds are a very rare allergen that can cause an allergic reaction. These seeds can be made into butter as a substitute for peanut butter and come as a variety of new products. Chocolate-covered sunflower seeds and Sun Cups are alternatives to peanut-laden desserts. Products including sunflower seed brittle and sunflower oil can be found at organic supermarkets. Sunflower seeds contain essential nutrients such as linoleic acid, amino acids, vitamin E, vitamin B and dietary fiber.
