Fasciorrhaphy is the surgical suturing of a torn fascia. It is also known as an aponeurorrhaphy. The fascia is a layer of tissue under the skin that separates layers of tissue and encloses muscle.
Because the fascia is under the skin and separates layers of tissue, when having surgery, the fascia must be cut through. After the surgery the tear must be repaired to facilitate healing. The wound edges are approximated and then sutured to close the wound. This also must be done in the case of an accidental laceration repair.
The fascia not only encloses muscles and separates tissues, but it also connects muscles to bones and bones to bones. It also wraps bones and organs.
