Swedish weaving is a form of embroidery also known as huck embroidery, huckaback weaving and punto yugoslavo. Swedish weaving on linen fabric was popular in the 1930s. Modern Swedish weaving is mostly done on Monk's cloth.
The two main stitches used in Swedish weaving are the straight stitch and the loop stitch. Nordic Needle provides a guide to these stitches and their variations.
Nordic Needle also provides a lengthy article that includes the history of Swedish weaving and the types of fabric, needles and threads that are typically used. Also included are tip and tricks, suggestions for starting and finishing edges, free patterns and a list of Swedish weaving designers.
