The Malaco candy company brought the Swedish Fish to the United States in the 1950s. They are a gelatin-free gummy candy that is denser than the average gummy candy. Fish are a staple in the Swedish diet, which is why this shape was chosen. Cadbury Adams currently creates the Swedish Fish that are sold in the United States. Malaco is still the distributor of the candy in Sweden. Malaco also offers a black licorice flavored fish.
