The sword was invented during the Bronze Age. The sword was made from the dagger when mankind gained the knowledge to make longer blades using tin-bronze and copper.

Scholars and anthropologists have discovered sword-like blades in areas such as Arslantepe, Turkey, dating back as far as 3,200 B.C. Construction of blades longer than 21 inches was only achieved during the late Bronze Age. Previously, swords longer than 21 inches would bend after prolonged use. Swords were mainly intended for thrusting during wars. The swords had a small leaf-shaped hilt that allowed a person to grab it firmly and to prevent the hand from slipping.
