Dulcolax, which is a brand name of the drug bisacodyl, is a stimulant laxative that is used to treat symptoms of constipation and is also prescribed for cleaning out the intestines before surgery or a bowel exam, according to WebMD. It increases intestinal movement to help expel stool faster.
Dulcolax is taken by mouth, and its dosage is generally based on response to treatment, medical condition and age, advises WebMD. It usually takes up to 12 hours for a bowel movement to be produced after taking Dulcolax, and it should never be chewed, crushed, broken or taken within an hour or drinking milk or taking an antacid medication.
