Symptoms of a parathyroid tumor include stomach pain, weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite and a lump in the neck, according to the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Additional symptoms include general malaise, upper back pain and excessive urination.
A parathyroid tumor, or parathyroid adenoma, occurs when one or more of the four pea-sized parathyroid glands near the thyroid develops a benign tumor, explains Healthline. These tumors can cause hyperthyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland grows too much and over produces parathyroid hormone, notes the Cleveland Clinic. The body uses parathyroid hormones to help control calcium levels in the blood.
