Syracuse is a city in Onondaga County, a county in central New York. As Onondaga County's largest city, Syracuse serves as the county seat for the area.

The city of Syracuse covers approximately 26 square miles of land, as well as 0.6 square miles of water, and has a population of about 145,000 people (which yields about 5,500 people per square mile). Syracuse is most known for being the home of Syracuse University, a collegiate level university with a popular Division I athletic program, which specializes in men's basketball. About 27 percent of Syracuse's land is covered by 890,000 trees, more than any other city (precentage-wise) in New York.
