Where is Tahiti?

Tahiti is located in the Society Islands archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean. It lies to the east of Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. It is the largest island in French Polynesia. Tahiti is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic.

Tahiti is divided into two major sections. The northwestern portion is known as Tahiti Nui, which means "Big Tahiti," and the southeastern portion is known as Tahiti Iti, or "Small Tahiti." The island's coastline stretches for 120 miles, and its total area is 403 square miles. Coral reefs surround the coastal waters, and much of the interior of the island is mountainous.
