According to the Dog Breed Info Center, a Great Dane can grow to 30 inches or more in height, with males on average being larger than females. Adult males are usually between 30 and 34 inches at the shoulder, while females grow to between 28 and 32 inches.
Dogs in this breed often achieve 30 inches in shoulder height before adulthood. Larger Great Danes are more highly prized by the breed standard, with no maximum height set. The World's Largest Great Dane as of 2012 is 44 inches tall at the shoulder and stands 88 inches tall when fully stretched out on its back legs. The previous record holder was 43 inches and three quarters at the shoulder.
