A miniature Yorkshire terrier sometimes only grows up to 4 inches tall when measured at the shoulders. To be considered a miniature, or teacup, the full-grown dog must weigh 4 pounds or less. Teacup puppies are typically a result of breeding a female runt and a male runt.

The average Yorkshire terrier measures between 6 and 7 inches tall at the shoulders and reaches a weight of 7 to 8 pounds. The life expectancy of a Yorkshire terrier is 12 to 15 years. They are considered very active dogs that are also well-suited for apartment living, as they can get needed exercise indoors and through daily walks.
