What is a tangelo?
By Forinfos - 31/10/2025 - 0 comments
A tangelo is a sweet, hybrid fruit which is often mistaken for an unusually shaped orange. It is a hybrid of a tangerine and grapefruit or pomello. Tangelos are sometimes referred to as honeyballs.
Tangelos are sweet tasting but have a tart aftertaste. They are seedless, have a thick skin and are easy to peel. Minneola is the most popular variety of tangelos and can be substituted for oranges or tangerines in any recipe. Although some tangelos are naturally crossbred, most are produced by farmers who crossbreed the fruits in order to bring out certain characteristics like sweetness, juiciness, or color.
