What are some tax deductions for truckers?
By Forinfos - 10/04/2026 - 0 comments
Self-employed truckers can deduct all expenses related to owning and operating a truck, including the cost of fuel, insurance, repairs and tires, according to H&R Block. Corporately employed truck drivers can deduct expenses the company doesn't reimburse, such as cell phones and log books, notes the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.
Truckers who don't receive reimbursement also can deduct a per diem for meals and motel expenses if they are away from home overnight, according to OOIDA. Truck owners can depreciate their rigs on their taxes, and they must deduct actual expenses for fuel rather than taking a standard deduction, advises H&R Block.
