What are tea cup kittens?

Tea cup kittens and cats are exceptionally small cats, usually maturing at less than 5 pounds. Many are small Persians. As of 2014, no major cat associations recognize miniature Persians, or miniatures of any other established cat breed, as a separate variety.

Tea cup or miniature cats usually have normal body proportions. Animals produced by unscrupulous breeders often have major health problems, including seizures, heart problems and abnormal weakness due to slow muscle mass growth. Small breeds not considered miniature cats include the Singapura, the smallest recognized cat breed, and the Munchkin, which is a dwarf rather than a miniature. The Munchkin's short stature is due to a genetic disorder.
