Why are technical skills important?

While some technical skills are general, others are incredibly specific such as a knowledge of medicine or the ability to rewire circuitry, meaning these skills are needed to perform a specific job or set of tasks, as noted by Luther College. Those who lack such technical skills cannot apply them to such jobs or perform such specialty work.

Technical skills act as a qualifying barrier for entry into many fields. Without them, a worker is less employable and less flexible in where they can apply their trade.

Other skills such as "soft" skills like empathy and understanding are also important, notes Luther College. Technical skills enable skilled work while soft skills enable easy interaction with others.
