What is a DMCA take-down notice?

By Forinfos - 03/11/2025 - 0 comments

A DMCA take-down notice is a demand sent to a website to remove certain content. This demand is made by the owner or copyright holder of the content. A copyright is not required to demand content removal.

DMCA stands for the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The DMCA is part of United States copyright law and was enacted on October 28, 1998. A DMCA take-down notice must contain several elements: identification of content that is in violation, signature of the owner or agent, the owner's contact information, confirmation that content use was unauthorized and a statement acknowledging accuracy of the DMCA take-down notice.
