What is a landing page?

A landing page is any page that the viewer of a website can access directly. Landing pages may also be offshoot pages of a website without any connections to the main site, used primarily to generate click throughs or leads.

A click though landing page is designed to lead the user to a different page. These click through pages are usually used to provide product information prior to leading to a shopping cart or registration page. Lead generating landing pages are intended to collect visitor contact information. This information can be used for anything from offering the visitor a free trial of some software or service to the visitor being placed on a mailing list for future communications.
