Are teeth bones?

Teeth are not considered bones. Teeth are calcified tissue made from dentine. Bones differ from teeth mainly because of the presence of collagen, a protein that allows bones to withstand pressure, and osteoblasts, cells that enable bones to heal and grow.

Teeth and bones contain similar minerals. Teeth contain calcium and phosphorous. Bones contain calcium, phosphorus and sodium. Teeth are the hardest part of the human body. However, while teeth are stronger than bones, teeth lack the ability to regenerate the way bone tissue does. Bones that fracture generate new bones cells and fuse with existing tissue. Finally, bones contain marrow, while teeth do not.
