How do I tell if something is made in occupied Japan?

All items made in Occupied Japan are marked with the words “Made in Occupied Japan,” or simply "Occupied Japan." These markings are engraved, handwritten, stamped or done with a cloth or paper label.

Occupied Japan refers to the time period from 1945 to April 25, 1952, during which time the Allies occupied Japan. Half of all exports during the occupation period had to be marked as made in Occupied Japan, which was part of Japan’s agreement with the Allied powers. Kitchenware and figurines bearing these marks are now collectibles. Items made during this time but do not feature the “Occupied Japan” markings are not regarded as collectibles and are often of little value.
