What is the texture of granite?

Granite has a coarse to very coarse grained texture. It is typically granular and can be porphyritic with well-shaped large crystals of feldspar. Its structure contains cavities wherein well-formed crystals project.

Some granites are foliated. Granite also tends to have coarse intergrowths of feldspars and quartz that form a graphic texture. It has colorless grains, and it is mottled in white, red, pink, grey or dark grains. It is classified as acid plutonic igneous rock, and it commonly occurs in batholiths. Most granites comprise a combination of glassy quartz, small amounts of dark minerals, white, red or pink alkali feldspar and sodic plagioclase.
