To thin acrylic latex house paint, add one-half cup of water per gallon of paint. Use a stirring stick to mix the paint and water thoroughly.

1. Gather the materials

   Gather the acrylic latex paint, a measuring cup and a stirring stick.

2. Add water to paint

   Remove the lid from the paint. Measure one-half cup of water. Pour the water directly into the paint can.

3. Mix paint and water

   Using a stirring stick, stir the paint in a circular motion while moving the stick up and down.

4. Check paint consistency

   Check the consistency of the paint. If it is not as thin as you would like, stir in an additional one-eighth cup of water. Continue adding small amounts of water until the paint is the consistency you desire.
