Some phrases in the Hippocratic Oath include “I will prevent disease,” “I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings,” and “I do not treat a fever chart… but a sick human being,” as stated on NLM.NIH.gov. The oath is historically taken by physicians.

As stated on the National Library of Medicine section of the National Institute of Health website, the Hippocratic Oath requires new physicians to swear to uphold specific ethical standards by a number of healing gods in Greek mythology. Additionally, the oath creates a bond between new medical students and physician mentors similar to family members.
