What is a thrift plant?

A thrift plant is a small, dense plant with dark green leaves. It blossoms in the spring between April and May and bears highly visible pink and white flowers. The thrift plant is also known as the sea pink plant.

Thrift plants are commonly seen growing in coastal, salty areas in which few other plants thrive. Thrift plants do best when planted in dry, unfertilized soil with excellent drainage and when they have maximum sun exposure. Thrift plants can grow to be 1 foot tall and up to 1 foot wide, and they are commonly used in landscaping as edging.
