Is thrush contagious?

Thrush is contagious under certain special circumstances, according to eMedicineHealth. Infants can contract thrush during birth, and young children with impaired immune systems can get thrush from other children. Adults who wear dentures can spread thrush via hand-to-denture contact. Thrush is caused by a Candida fungus overgrowth.

The National Health Service explains that most adults already have some Candida fungi in their mouths, so they don't need to contract it from others. In most adults who are affected by this problem, some underlying condition in their bodies has triggered the overgrowth of fungus known as thrush. Medications, vitamin deficiencies and some infections can cause thrush.
