Are there any tigers in Kenya?

There are no tigers in Kenya - or any other African nation - outside of zoos. Tigers are native to Asia and are becoming increasingly rare even there due to poaching and habitat destruction.

Tigers are the largest living members of the cat family and require large territories for hunting; a single tiger can consume up to 88 pounds of meat at a time. Their need for large territories often brings them into direct conflict with human populations. Poaching for fur and body parts used in traditional Chinese medicine has also reduced wild populations. Fortunately for the survival of the species, tigers reproduce readily in captivity.
