The highest recorded closing of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, as of 2015, is 18,312.39, according to FedPrimeRate.com. The DJIA crossed the 18,000 mark for the first time in December, 2014, and reached its current record in May, 2015.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has climbed steadily from 2009 to 2015, following a massive downturn that began in 2008. Stock numbers did not return to form until 2012, when the recovering market managed to equal, and then surpass, the prior peak of 2007. The 2007 peak came on the heels of the slow recovery of the first 21st century stock crash.
