What is the best time of the year to plant daylilies?

Plant daylilies in the early fall or spring. Daylilies are hardy perennials that thrive in both warm and cold climates, in planting zones three through nine. They require at least six hours of sun per day, so select a sunny area in your garden for planting.
Daylilies grow from a bare root, not a bulb. Add compost to the soil prior to planting. Space plants approximately 12 inches apart, and plant the crown 1 inch underground. The crown is where the roots meet the base of the plant. After planting, add a layer of mulch, and water thoroughly.
Daylilies are typically healthy, resilient and disease-free flowers.
