Since a car battery can weigh up to 24 pounds, removing it from the vehicle is generally the hardest part. Remove the black, negative battery cable from the battery first. Remove the red, positive cable next. Lift the battery from the tray either by using a handle or by holding the bottom of the battery. Remove corrosion from the area with baking soda. Install the new battery attaching the red cable before installing the black cable.
