Why are tires made of rubber?
By Forinfos - 12/03/2026 - 0 comments
Tires are made of rubber because rubber can withstand wear and tear, and the substance offers a high level of grip even when the roads are wet. Tires are made from synthetic rubber and not pure rubber from rubber trees.
Synthetic rubber is made from the sap of the rubber tree, which is combined with styrene, butadiene and petroleum derivatives. The combination of a variety of additives makes the manufacture of tires less expensive and creates a better bounce than natural rubber. The synthetic rubber also withstands heat much better than solid rubber, which helps to increase the life of the tire.
