Where does toilet water go?

After you flush a toilet, the water goes down the sewer pipes to the sewage treatment plant. In places where the home is far away from the sewer system, the waste water goes into large septic tanks. These tanks are cleaned and emptied regularly to keep the home safe.

Because used toilet water is unsafe, proper waste drainage is important in order to protect yourself and keep your clean water sources safe. When toilet water arrives at the sewage plant, it is filtered, cleaned and treated to remove the unhealthy content. The water is only released back into the environment when it is clean. The filtered water can be used in road repair and building work, and the treated sludge is used as manure.
